The avalanche beacons manufactured in Canada by Survival On Snow Inc. (SOS) have only one purpose… to find and recover survivors of an avalanche.

We believe that search speed, simplicity of operation, and accuracy of information transmitted and received are the only functions a beacon requires. We also believe that beacons which have functions that are unrelated to the successful rescue of avalanche victims are a hindrance, not a help.

Altimeters, temperature read-outs, and compass directions can only add to the confusion of a situation that is already stressful and panic-driven. Comparisons have ranked SOS beacons #1 for simplicity, longest range, and directional accuracy.
